Day-by-day itinerary

Paced for one fort or palace plus one neighbourhood or food experience per day — not a monument marathon. Drop Jaisalmer if short on time, or extend with Bundi, Mount Abu or Ranthambore tiger safaris.

Day 1 · Jaipur

Arrival in the Pink City

Morning: Arrive at Jaipur International Airport (JAI) — direct flights from Delhi (45 min), Mumbai (1h45m) and Dubai. Pre-book a hotel pickup (₹600–900). Light breakfast, then a slow walk through the pink-washed lanes around Hawa Mahal.
Afternoon: Lunch at Bar Palladio (Italian in a Mughal-blue palace courtyard) or LMB in Johari Bazaar for dal baati churma. Explore the City Palace and Jantar Mantar — combined ticket saves ₹200.
Evening: Sunset at Nahargarh Fort with city views and a beer at Padao. Dinner at 1135 AD inside Amber Fort precincts (book ahead).

Day 2 · Jaipur

Amber Fort, stepwells & block-print bazaars

Morning: Amber Fort at 8am via the Sheesh Mahal route — skip the elephant ride (animal welfare). Allow 2.5 hours. Stop at Panna Meena ka Kund stepwell on the descent.
Afternoon: Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing (Amber) for block-print history. Lunch at Jaipur Modern Kitchen. Shop Bapu Bazaar for juttis, blue pottery and bandhani.
Evening: Cocktails at Bar Palladio or rooftop sundowner at The Johri. Dinner at The Forresta Kitchen & Bar.

Day 3 · Jaipur → Pushkar

Drive to the holy lake town

Jaipur → Pushkar · 150 km · 3h by car

Morning: Leave by 9am for Pushkar (150 km, 3 hours via NH48). Check in at a lakeside haveli. Lunch at Honey & Spice (vegan-friendly) or Sixth Sense at Inn Seventh Heaven.
Afternoon: Walk the 52 ghats around Pushkar Lake — pause at Brahma Temple (one of the few in the world). Modest dress required; remove shoes before the lake.
Evening: Sunset on the Savitri Mata Temple hill (15-min cable car or 45-min climb). Aarti on the ghats at dusk. Vegetarian-only town — try Out of the Blue for thalis.

Day 4 · Pushkar → Jodhpur

Road to the Blue City

Pushkar → Jodhpur · 190 km · 4h by car

Morning: Leave by 8am for Jodhpur (190 km, 4 hours via NH62). Roadside dhaba breakfast at Roopangarh. Arrive Jodhpur by 1pm.
Afternoon: Lunch on Indique rooftop with Mehrangarh Fort views. Walk the indigo lanes of the old city below Navchokiya — every alley is a photo.
Evening: Sunset at Pal Haveli's rooftop with the fort glowing gold. Dinner at Darikhana inside RAAS Jodhpur or street khaman/mirchi vada at Sardar Market.

Day 5 · Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort & Bishnoi village safari

Morning: Mehrangarh Fort at opening (9am). The audio guide is one of the best in India — allow 3 hours. Don't miss the Phool Mahal and zip-line option over the ramparts.
Afternoon: Lunch at Jhankar Choti Haveli. Optional Bishnoi village half-day safari — pottery, weavers, blackbuck spotting (₹2,500 per person via hotel).
Evening: Jaswant Thada (white marble cenotaph) at golden hour. Dinner at Gypsy for Rajasthani thali or Chokelao Mahal Terrace inside the fort for ambience.

Stay: Same hotel as Day 4.

Day 6 · Jodhpur → Jaisalmer

Across the Thar to the Golden Fort

Jodhpur → Jaisalmer · 285 km · 5.5h by car / 1h by flight

Morning: Best option: overnight train the previous night, or fly Jodhpur → Jaisalmer (1h, limited flights). By car: 285 km, 5.5 hours through Thar desert villages — leave by 7am.
Afternoon: Check in inside Jaisalmer Fort (one of the world's last living forts). Lunch at The Trio. Wander Patwon ki Haveli and Salim Singh ki Haveli — the carved sandstone is unmatched.
Evening: Sunset from Bada Bagh cenotaphs or Sunset Point. Dinner at Suryagarh's Legend of Marwad or 1st Gate Home Fusion for Italian-Rajasthani fusion.

Stay: Mid: Killa Bhawan · Heritage: Suryagarh Jaisalmer · Luxury: The Serai (a Sujan camp)

Day 7 · Jaisalmer

Sam Sand Dunes & desert camp night

Morning: Slow morning in the fort lanes — coffee at Free Tibet, breakfast at Saffron rooftop. Visit the Jain temples inside the fort (open 8am–12pm only).
Afternoon: Drive 45 km to Sam Sand Dunes (or quieter Khuri Dunes). Check into a luxury desert camp by 4pm — Suryagarh, The Serai or Mihir Garh outposts include camel rides and folk-music dinners.
Evening: Camel ride at sunset, Rajasthani folk music and Kalbeliya dance around the fire, dinner under the stars. Sleep in a Swiss tent.

Stay: Desert camp (The Serai, Suryagarh Desert Camp, or budget tented options at Sam).

Day 8 · Jaisalmer → Udaipur

The long transfer to the City of Lakes

Jaisalmer → Udaipur · 490 km road / 5–6h via Delhi by flight

Morning: Direct: fly Jaisalmer → Delhi → Udaipur (best, 5–6 hours total). By road: 490 km via Jodhpur, ~9 hours — split with a Ranakpur Jain Temple stop (extraordinary 1,444-pillar marble temple).
Afternoon: Arrive Udaipur by 5pm. Check in. Coffee on a Lake Pichola rooftop — Jheel's Ginger Coffee Bar or Upre by 1559 AD.
Evening: Sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola (₹500–800, departs from City Palace ghat). Dinner at Ambrai with the Lake Palace floodlit across the water.

Stay: Mid: Jagat Niwas Palace · Heritage: Leela Palace Udaipur · Luxury: Taj Lake Palace (in the middle of the lake)

Day 9 · Udaipur

City Palace, Sajjangarh & sunset cruise

Morning: City Palace at opening (9:30am) — the Crystal Gallery and Zenana Mahal are worth the extra tickets. Allow 2.5 hours.
Afternoon: Lunch at Charcoal by Carlsson (rooftop, lake-facing). Drive to Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace for panoramic Aravalli views, or visit the Vintage Car Museum.
Evening: Aarti at Jagdish Temple, then dinner at Tribute (modern Rajasthani tasting menu) or Upre by 1559 AD. Optional Dharohar folk dance show at Bagore-ki-Haveli (7pm, ₹150).

Stay: Same hotel as Day 8.

Day 10 · Udaipur → Departure

Slow morning & farewell

Udaipur → onward · UDR airport, 30 min from city

Morning: Optional: cooking class at Shashi Cooking Classes (book a week ahead) or a sunrise kayak on Fateh Sagar Lake.
Afternoon: Lunch at Millets of Mewar (organic, locally grown). Transfer to Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR, 30 min) for onward flights to Delhi, Mumbai or international connections.
Evening: Departure.

Logistics & practical tips

Best time to go

October to March. November–February is peak — 18–28°C days, cool desert nights. Skip April–June (45°C+ in Jaisalmer). Monsoon (Jul–Sep) is green and quiet but some forts limit hours.

Transport

Private car-and-driver for the full loop runs ₹25,000–40,000 across 10 days. Trains are excellent on Jaipur–Jodhpur and Udaipur–Jaipur. Fly the Jaisalmer–Udaipur leg via Delhi to save a day.

Heritage hotels

Book palaces (Rambagh, Umaid Bhawan, Taj Lake Palace) 3–4 months ahead in peak season. Mid-range havelis (Pal Haveli, Samode Haveli, Jagat Niwas) often have better character at a third of the price.

What to pack

Light layers — desert nights drop to 8°C in winter. Modest clothing for temples (shoulders + knees). Slip-on shoes for monuments. Sunglasses, hat, high-SPF sunscreen. A scarf doubles for sun, dust and temple cover-ups.

Safety & scams

Use Ola/Uber over street auto-rickshaws unless metered. Skip 'government emporium' detours your driver suggests — they pay commission. In Jaisalmer, book camel safaris through your hotel only.

Extending the trip

Add Ranthambore (2 nights for tiger safaris) before Jaipur, Bundi (1 night, stepwells) between Pushkar and Jodhpur, or Mount Abu (2 nights, hill station + Jain temples) after Udaipur.
